The Chargers hosted Chiddingfold Emeralds in their penultimate Div 1 league match on Sunday. In traditional fashion, the Chargers lost the toss, and the Emeralds elected to field first.
First pair out to bat, Trace & Patsy got the batting off to a strong start, placing some lovely shots to find the fielding gaps and sneak over the boundary.
Up next, Charlie B and Ella called well and kept the score ticking over, despite a great piece of bowling to take the only wicket of the match against the Changers.
3rd pair, Cath & Kimberley, continued their strong batting partnership, adding 23 to the score with some well placed shots and great running.
Last pair, Soph & Al went into bat, feeling the pressure not to lose any wickets! With some good calling and running, the innings finished on 305/1.
After a break to cool off, reapply suncream and add some strategically placed ice cubes, the Chargers hit the field to defend their innings.
The Emeralds were in great batting form, trying to find the gaps. The Chargers' were in fine form in the field, putting into practice the recent drills and putting it all on the line to stop the boundaries. The first wicket fell in the first over, a catch behind by Al from Soph's bowling. 2 further wickets fell in the 5th and 12th overs, from some pin point bowling by Cath and Al.
Heading into the last over, the Emeralds were closing in, needing 18 to win.
Continuing her great bowling form, Soph stepped up to bowl the last, knowing the Emerald's pair were up for the battle!
A single, and 2 dot balls were followed by a wicket on the 4th ball leaving, the Emeralds with a tough task. A 4 off the last gave the Emeralds 288/4.
Congrats to the Chargers on the win and a great overall performance. Thanks to the Emeralds to a great match.
Just one more league match to go - sad times indeed!
