Michael Owen - 2026 Young Player of the Year

Many congratulations to U15 player Michael (Mikey) Owen who was recently awarded the Peter Clapham - Young Player of the Year Award for 2026.

On hand to present his Dad's trophy was Gary one of our coaches and players.

Nominated by Club Coach Stuart Kennedy, Mikey was a worthy winner this year citing that ;

"As a captain Mikey makes sure everyone on the pitch has a role to play… everyone bowls, most people bat and fielding positions are shared equally with everyone having their turns close to the bat or out on the boundary.

Mikey always listens in training and takes on board advice. I have spoken to him a lot about fielding positioning this year and tactics. Mikey is always attentive and admits when he gets things wrong and resolves to put them right.

Mikey has also had a number of innings this year where he has had to support the other batter through their innings as well. He talks to all his players and gets on well with all.

I have never heard or seen him get cross with the performance of another child and he is always positive, a great attribute.

Mikey not only plays with his peers at U15 level but is also a regular in the U17 team and one of the first names for the men's 3rd Xi team sheet now.
