Grayshott Celebrates 130 years of cricket

2026 is a special year for Grayshott Cricket Club which celebrates 130 years of cricket. The club is now a thriving one, far flung from those early days when the club had just one men’s team and was one of the founder members of the I’Anson Cup Competition and still one of the few clubs that have remained throughout the long history of the competition. For most of its history the Grayshott has fielded just two men’s teams and in the late 1950s saw the introduction of junior cricket at the club.

Since the late nineties and throughout the beginning part of this century the club has grown exponentially. In 2026 the club will field four men’s sides, four women’s sides and eighteen junior teams including four girls only teams. As well as being a Super 1s Disability Hub the club is an ECB All Stars and Dynamos Centre promoting cricket for boys and girls who may not normally get the chance to enjoy the great game of cricket.

The club now boasts over 500 members including over 400 playing members and 130 All Stars & Dynamos. in 2025 the club reached another milestone with 100 girls at the club.

In 2026 the club will be launching Walking Cricket aimed at men and women 50 years and over who are keen to maintain their physical and mental health in a social environment. Our Women's group will also be fielding a second hardball team in 2026 providing more opportunities for women’s cricket. Our men's 1st XI return to Division 1 after being Division 2 Champions in 2025.

In the club’s early days they played on the ground adjoining what is now known as Applegarth before moving to the Sportsfield. As well as excellent facilities here the growth at the club meant the club now has two grounds, the second ground the idyllic setting at Broxhead Common where the club has been for the last ten years now.

2026 promises to be another full year of cricket at the club and you can hear more on the club’s plans at the AGM on Friday 6th January at Grayshott Pavilion 7.30pm start. The AGM will be followed by Pizzas and a Music Bingo Quiz.
