A Thursday night adventure took our team to the picturesque village of Clanfield. A perfect summer evening for a friendly game of 10 a side softball cricket - and to practice the team’s walk outs…(check out our socials!)
We 'opted' to bat based on the slightly longer commute down the A3 and the opening pair of Lisa and Pippa were straight away placing their shots all around the ground. The confident start was followed by the all-action Al and Elly B pairing, where 'running 2s' became standard procedure.
Cady and Lucy faced some tough bowlers who were targeting their stumps at every opportunity. Cady hitting back to back 4s was a highlight of the game. A couple of quick wickets then needed a calmer approach, so Sonia and Charlie W came into steady the ship and set the platform for Marija and Charlie B to close the batting and try to set a tough total to beat.
A couple of cheeky singles and some staunch defence saw us sneak to 296. After a quick much-needed drinks break, it was time for the Strikers to field.
Fielding on a slow outfield gave everyone plenty of opportunity to get their hands to the ball (and sometimes, their bodies) and it was great to have the whole team bowl to brush up on their skills.
Our coach would have been proud of how we picked up those ground balls in the deep. We kept the game nice and close until the last few overs when their well practised reverse sweeps allowed them to pull away and push past us to 320. We fought till the end!
A big thank you to Soph for square legging (and confusing us all by wearing her team kit!)
And also a special mention and thank you to the Kites for the rather excellent match tea that meant we didn't have to cook when we got home. Cheese and Pineapple sticks for the win. 👏 🥙 🍪 🍹
