Team: Back row L-R Lisa, Charlie B, Al, Sonia. Front row L-R Trace, Sophie, Patsy, Jenny

On Sunday’s muggy, and occasionally drizzly, afternoon, the Strikers hosted Farnham at Broxhead in their penultimate match of the I’Anson Women’s Group A this season.

For possibly the first time this season, the Strikers won the toss and elected to field first. Bowling duties were spilt amongst the team, with everyone taking 2 overs each. It was a great bowling and fielding display; with particular mention to Sophie for her economy of 2.00 and Lisa who got a wicket maiden! As Farnham batted, the Strikers were tight in the field stopping boundaries and singles, and some great team work meant the Strikers took 6 wickets.

Farnham finished on a net score of 251.

Strikers batting to win

After a quick break, the Strikers went into bat. First pair Sonia and Jenny, batting together for the first time, opened the scoring with 21 without loss, including Jenny’s first boundary. Next up, Patsy and Charlie B added 24 without loss, putting the Strikers in a great position as the third pair went into bat. Lisa and Sophie, batting together for the first time, added a whopping 36. Which included a rather special reverse sweep from Lisa, who had seen it at the T20 the previous day and was determined to try it – getting a boundary for her efforts!

Last pair, Trace and Al, determined not to get out and undo all the great work so far, achieved a score of 41, without loss. The Strikers finished on a net score of 339 – their highest score this season! Huge congrats to the Strikers.

Player of the match was Lisa for her epic reverse sweep and that bowling expertise to achieve a wicket maiden. One of our littlest supporters was very proud of his Great Aunite!

Thank you to Mark for his expert umpiring skills and to everyone who came along and supported. The Strikers will be action for the last time, away to Grayswood Harriers, on Sunday 14th August.
