It was another double header the for Grayshott Women’s Softball Cricket team on Sunday. The day started with the Chargers away to Frimley Phoenix Flames, at Hawley & Blackwater Leisure Centre

Before temperatures rose too high the match got underway as The Flames won the toss and elected to field first. The Chargers team went into bat and showed off the skills being honed in weekly coaching sessions. Cadence and Abi opened the batting with a strong 28 without loss. Next up was Kate J and Nikkie, batting together for the first time, and adding 8 with the loss of one wicket. 3rd pair, Sophie and Louise, also batting together for the first time added an impressive 30. Final pair, Charlie B and Lisa – another first time batting pair, finished the innings in fantastic style adding a whopping 42 to the score, including 2 6s for Lisa.

The team finished on a net score of 323.

The Flames batted well, with the Chargers bowlers in good form and fielding well to take 5 wickets. Frimley Phoenix Flames finished on a net score 264 – meaning the Chargers won the match by 59 runs – huge congrats to the Chargers!

In the afternoon, the Strikers hosted Chiddingfold Emeralds. The heat was certainly on for this match! Chiddingfold won the toss and elected to field. 

The Strikers’ batting pairs got underway. First up, Trace and Kirsty, batting together for the first time, opened with 13, losing two wickets. Next up Nicky and Pippa worked hard for their runs and added 12, losing 3 wickets – the Emeralds fielding was on form! Third pair, Amy and Sonia, also batting together for the first time, added a much needed 28 to the score, losing one wicket. Final pair Al and Patsy, added 26 losing two wickets. A great haul of 18 boundaries for the innings. The Emeralds’ fielding and bowling was in great shape to take 8 wickets.

The Strikers finished on a next score of 283.

After a much needed break between innings to hydrate – and enjoy a freeze pop! – Chiddingfold went into bat. The Strikers team worked hard against some great cricket by the Emeralds and both teams were definitely feeling the heat in the afternoon sun. Despite the Strikers taking 7 wickets, Chiddingfold batted strongly to finish on a net score of 307 and win the match.
