It was a scorcher for the women’s softball teams with the Chargers and Strikers in action in another double header.

The Chargers were away to Blackheath Magic, and the Strikers hosted Frimley Women. Despite last minute team changes due to illness, we were able to field a team for both afternoon matches.

Blackheath vs Chargers

Blackheath won the toss and elected to field. Chargers’ first pair, batting for the first time together was Cadence and Nikkie, opening the scoring with 9, with the loss of a wicket. Next up, Becca and Charlie W paired up, adding 1 to the score with the loss of two wickets. Kate and Abi were up next, adding 11 with the loss of a wicket. Final pair, Charlie B and Karen – making her season debut – batted well together to add 26.

The Chargers finished on a net score of 277.

As Blackheath went into bat, Abi took up wicketkeeping duties for the first time and did a sterling job in the gloves! Bowling duties were shared amongst the team, and the Chargers took several wickets from some accurate bowling – aswell as from some great catching. The combination of a sharper and quicker Blackheath side and the heat was too much for the Chargers on the day.

Blackheath finished on a net score of 293 to win the match by 16 runs. Congrats to the lovely Blackheath Magic team! Thank you for being so welcoming to your lovely ground – its was a great match.

Player of the match was Nikkie for her great bowling – well done Nikkie!

Strikers vs Frimley Women

The Strikers also lost the toss and batted first in the afternoon sun at Grayshott. First pair Trace and Louise – making her season debut having recently joined the club – opened the batting and added 26, losing a wicket to some rather fine bowling! Susie and Sonia, batting together for the first time, added 14 without loss. Amy and Alex – also making her debut having recently joined the club – batted 3rd to add 18. Last pair, Al & Cat worked hard but the loss of two wickets meant nothing to add to the score. The Strikers finished on a net score of 276.

As Frimley went into bat, bowling duties were shared amongst the team, with Al and Susie sharing wicketkeeping duties. The Strikers took 4 wickets, from some excellent bowling and great catches in the field – including a great take from Louise in her debut match.

Frimley played some great cricket and finished on 304 to win by 28 runs.

Player of the match was Louise, for all round excellent cricket and that lovely catch – well done Louise!

Big thank you to Ol and Gav, who shared umpire duties for the home match.
