As it proved in so many games on Saturday winning the toss was a pretty helpful outcome. Frensham won the toss and put the Shotts into bat and it was not long before Messina Snr fell. Scanlon returning to the fold spent many overs at the crease with the skipper Wheeler but everyone struggled against the tidy lines of Jones and Chilcott. The overs bowled exceeding runs scored ofr the first 12 overs. The change bowlers of Blythe and Page took the pace off the ball but run scoring remained difficult. Blythe picked up the vital wicket of Scanlon for 18 followed by Roberts who opted to get on with the run rate but was outwitted by an even slower ball from Blythe for 19.
The overs were running out for the Shotts with not many runs on the board. The introduction of the Grundys however put pay to any chance of a defendable toatl with the Shotts all out for 87 in the 38th over, sharing the last six wicketsi ncluding opener Wheeler who batted for 31 overs for his 20 runs.
Hearing the low scores from the 1s and 2s marginally helped the mood of the home team knowing early wickets was the key as they took to the field. Messina picked up two early wickets and Frensham were 2-2. Game on maybe, but maybe not. Barnes (47) batted sensibly well supported by Nicholls steered the visitors to victory before Messina Jnr picked up two wickets, fast becoming the full toss specialist in the side.
