Sunday XI – Match Report against Nuthurst

Everyone arrived at Grayshott all with smiles and chuckles to get a game of cricket in. The  toss was none existent as the Nuthurst Captain kindly accepted to bat first.

The game got off to an even start with Tom and Aaron keeping some nice tight lines. Nuthurst started to up the run rate until run out by Tom with some Suicidal running breaking the opening partnership. The next wicket didn’t take long to come as one the batsmen of some generous bowling from John pulled it straight to Aaron at square leg. The third came with Jaime House getting the batsmen plumb for a duck. Nuthurst started to pull away with an accelerating run rate until the captain brought himself on and getting 2 quick wickets.

The wickets continued to fall, Keith Tuffin was the pick of the bowlers with getting 3-23 of 4 overs. Nuthurst’s final pair scored a flourish of boundaries before getting run out by the young Cam Ward.

There was a quick turn around and Grayshott were put into bat chasing a slightly high score 188 with 40 overs to get them in

The innings got off to a slow start with the captain and Mark Weekes batting on a pitch with variable bounce but managing to get to 16 of 10 overs without loss. The Nuthurst opening bowler getting 5 maidens in a row until the hands were loosened a bit and was hit for 3 boundaries boosting the run rate.

The first wicket to fall was the Captain playing on trying to get the innings going. Then the next on was Mark Weekes snicking off for a nice 27. Then another wicket fell quickly with Sir John Lee pulling the short straw with the young Cam taking a quick single for a run out. Toby Joyce steadied the ship with a expansive 34, while 3 wickets fell for 5 runs. There was some resistance and some ‘well’ placed shots by Keith Tuffin and the low order but Grayshott fell short by 58 runs.

It was a great game I would like to say a special thank you to Nuthurst for the distance travelled the had to come from and that they were a great bunch of lads. The game was played with fun and everyone got a game.
