    New Junior Ground for Broxhead Common Complete

    New Junior Ground for Broxhead Common Complete

    It has taken nearly two years to come to fruition but the artificial pitch on our new junior ground at Broxhead was installed last week with the intention of it being used next summer.

    Turning an unused rabbit and mole ridden field into a junior cricket pitch has been a challenging project for the club with the English weather doing its best to de-rail the project. A timeline of the project can be found below along with several photos over the last 12 months

    October 2016  – Grant application process started

    February 2017 – Grant application process completed

    August 2017 – Sport England, the main contributor towards the project confirmed support

    September 2017 – A real rush to complete competitive tendering

    October 2017 – Kestrel the contractor starts works at the beginning of the month but then the rain comes preventing seeding.

    May 2018 – The ground finally drys out for work to continue and seeding taking place

    June 2018 – A bright green tinge appears, only for the hottest summer to follow, resulting in the sun burning the new grass in many places, despite the heroic efforts of Raveen Sriharan to get water onto the ground

    September 2018 – Working party to seed the bare patches

    October 2018 – Artificial pitch installed by Club turf and further work to seed the bare patches

    The club is grateful to the following who supported us with funding for this project;
