There were a lot of firsts for us in this game, first game of the season, first hardball game at club level for this team, first time playing at Broxhead and first time a game had to be restarted after the first bowl due to an injury and first time playing in the rain.
This season is going to be tougher than the previous seasons after winning the league for the last two seasons on the trot, the team have jumped up an age group as the players are now playing in the SEH u11 A league, so they are going to be challenged more than before.
We played Locks Heath whom we beat last year to win the u9 SEH league from them by 4 runs. Locks Heath are a formidable team and on Friday some of their team from last year mixed up with some really good u11 players out batted us to win comfortably.
The game was played with impeccable sportsmanship between the two sides as each team showed concern when there were a couple of injuries and tumbles.
As a team I thought our fielding was as good as it could have been with possibly one or two runs gained because of overthrows. There was some good chasing down to stop boundaries and good control when close to the wicket. Well done boys.
Notable performances were Tommy with the bat as he retired on 30, a great achievement recognised by the opposition parents especially after struggling with an injury gained at the start of the match. Finlay (11) and James SP (16) also did well in bat.
James SP did particularly well with the ball with a good set of overs and providing Finlay with a catch at point for the only wicket we took during the game.
As a first game against tough opponents whom had played earlier in the week I thought the team performed well and should be proud of themselves.
Thanks for Sam for doing the Match Tea which was welcomed after the cold start to the season and thanks for Tony for persevering with the play cricket app in the rain.
