Rearranged Pelicans game at Headley this morning in beautiful weather although pitch damp with uneven bounce. Intended 8 aside game due to difficulties to make a team for both clubs. Fin Hunt took the captaincy and managed the team with plenty of thought and enthusiasm. Headley won the toss and put us into bat.
A difficult start for us with both Fin and Leo going to straight balls in the first over. But thereafter Eddie and Will steadied the ship. Aggressive running between the wickets but eventually a bit too optimistic with Will run out on second run for 8. Jed joined Eddie and the two of them batted very well indeed. Eddie bowled for 19 and Jed retiring on 31. We managed finally to see out the overs for a round score of 100 but were lucky to have 33 extras to help us.
Key then for Grayshott was to bowl limiting the extras and field tightly. The team played with a lot of enthusiasm and took the game right to the last ball. Some very good bowling especially from Eddie Collins with 2 for 14. Charlotte also took 2 wickets and Will and Fin bowled some tight overs particularly towards the end. Wickets came throughout the innings and in the last over Headley needed 2 runs with 2 wickets in hand. Fin gave Eddie the ball. First ball a wicket. Then a run to tie the scores. 3 good tight balls but Headley rushed for a quick run on the third and Eddie threw for the stumps. A hit and we would tied the match but Headley made it through to win with one ball and one wicket to spare.
Great spirit played by all and clearly a lot of exciting tension all round.
Jed took the man of the match with his batting and good keeping. Eddie would have run him close with good batting and excellent bowling.
Thanks to Andy for scoring
