Valley End CC

Lost

Away | Tuesday 24 Jul 2018
We started at 6.15pm and, having won the toss, Cameron Ward, as captain, decided to bat. Grayshott (GCC) batting started well with Ward knocking 24 and Budden 8 off their 4 overs, getting to 34 n.o.. Wild and Perkins didn’t have quite the same success taking 19 off their 4 overs (10 n.o. & 6 n.o. respectively). The GCC run rate then slowed further with the exception being Kullar who had some meaningful success, particularly on his 2nd innings, for 15 not out. Overall the GCC innings suffered from an inability to connect cleanly with the ball and some lack of aggression, leaving Grayshott at 107 for 2 after 20 overs.

Valley End started positively and achieved the total after only 13 overs for the loss of only one more wicket. GCC fielding was on occasion generous with some reticence to get low to stop balls, moving rapidly over the super dry outfield, costing a few boundaries. The bowling attack was tight with regards to extras giving only 6 runs away in the 13 overs. Whilst Kullar, Stevenson and Overton took wickets Valley End swung and connected with the ball much more regularly and scored 80 runs from 4’s (versus 48 from 20 overs for GCC) with over pitched or short deliveries being treated appropriately. In terms of economy O’Keefe and Wild achieved the best run rates of 2 & 6 of their 1 & 2 overs respectively versus the average of 8.3 per over for the Valley End innings.

Stumps were drawn at 8.30 pm.
