A gloomy night at Broxhead did not make for good cricketing conditions. Grayshott, bowling first, made a great start with Alex Pinhey taking a wicket in the first over with Daniel Gash catching a bowl skied up to mid-off. Throughout the Horsley innings Grayshott fielded with discipline with captain for the night Ned Field leading by example with a number of fantastic boundary saving stops at mid wicket and Charlie Davenport-Bray doing a great job behind the stumps. Grayshott bowlers worked hard to restrict the runs with Alex Evans being the most economical conceding just 8 runs from his allotted overs supported well by Bella Grinsted, Max Grayson and Oliver Sansum. Further wickets from Xabi Hawkins, Sam Jones and a great caught and bowled by Ned meant Horsley and Send posted a first inning total of 146.
As the gloom and rain set in, Grayshott batted with determination. Alex Pinhey (10 runs), Charlie Davenport-Bray (15 runs), Sam Jones (16 runs) and Daniel Gash, who batted hurt after taking a deflected ball flush on the thigh, 12 runs. The pick of the Grayshott batsmen was Xabi Hawkins with a Grayshott man of the match performance of 22 with a number of boundaries all round the pitch. Charlie Vellacott was not out at the end but unfortunately Grayshott were not able to overturn a good Horsley and Send total scoring 119.
Well done to Horsley and Send who batted well and gave few scoring chances with their bowling.
