In the second home game of the season, Grayshott 2nd’s faced Witley on what was initially a very rainy afternoon. Although play was slightly delayed and the game reduced by 4 overs, Witley eventually went into bat and play began.
C. Oosthuizen began in a similar fashion to the week prior, taking the opening wicket with a lovely ball that hit the opening bat plum. Nice lines and lengths bowled by J. Oosthuizen kept the opposition total to a minimum in the first 12 overs. Witley began to build momentum with the bat and overcame their slow start. Captain R. Sriharan came into the attack and took a quick wicket, bringing Greyshott back into in the game, Rob Ward also rolling the arm over. Regardless of wickets to Rob Ward after persistent bowling efforts and another catch off R. Sriharan, Whitley were strong at the crease. Witley Captain O. Hickman managed 113* with other batsmen adding strong scores to amass a total of 275 runs for 5 wickets. A mammoth task for a youthful Grayshott side.
Regardless of the mammoth task our batsmen were up to it. R. Ward was unfortunate to get caught early in his innings however D. Anslow batted magnificently. A. Marden also had a fantastic return with the bat, driving well to amass a classy 42. Dan continued to bat brilliantly, tallying up boundaries and eventually going for 87 runs. Rav came and went, similar to H. Hannam who hit some massive shots before being bowled by a quality ball. Conway ended the innings not out as did J. Oosthuizen, who managed an enormous six back over the bowlers head. Grayshott ended our innings 191-6, a valiant effort by the boys however not enough to grab the win. Fair play to Witley, a strong side on the day.
