After a very long week at the selection table, round 6 saw Grayshott 2nd XI host Shalford 1st XI at Grayshott. Sitting on the same points, there was more than just a win up for grabs for both teams.

Grayshott won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked to be a typically good home pitch, the opening pair of Ali Wheble and Matt Jackson got off to another great start, with both batsman making 26. Looking to keep the momentum going Grayshott’s way, Rich Baker (18) and Luke McBain (40) knocking the ball around to all areas of the ground and adding another valuable 55 run partnership. Grayshott seemed to be in a commanding position at 144-3 with 15 overs remaining, but some tight bowling from Shalford brought a middle order collapse taking the next 3 wickets for only 20 runs. Coming in at number 9 Toby Joyce (30) produced a mature innings and showed by waiting for the right ball, there were still plenty of runs to find. He was well supported by Julian Oosthuizen who gathered 12 valuable runs and the Shotts reached a respectable 218 all out.

Knowing that Shalford's top order batsman have been in the runs in recent weeks the task was on the bowlers to not give away easy runs. Both Rob Gregory (35-1) and Julian Oosthuizen (33-3) were up for the task, keeping the run rate to just over 1 an over for the first 10. Oosthuizen picked up two early wickets, including the big scalp of Unsworth (second divisions leading run scorer). Backing up his batting performance Joyce bowled his leg spin with good variation and picked up two middle order wickets finishing with 2-38. Once again Jackson showing how important an all-rounder can be to a team taking 2-27 of his 9 overs. A great fielding performance led by Max Heath and George Patten helped to keep the runs down, and not to forget a brilliant catch at first slip by the skipper.

At 50 for 5 the game looked to heading for an early finish but a very good, patient knock from D.Gregory with 51 n.o and well supported by Stone (25) and Marisetti (17 n.o) saw Shalford to 189-8 and gain 2 valuable points.
