Grayshott Ghosts U19’s completed their group matches with a convincing win over Aldershot.

Pushed off the big square by an U9 game Grayshott offered Aldershot two T10 games to make up for the rained off match the previous week. The offer was declined and the regular T20 ensued.

Toby won the toss and duly batted first on an evening when fading light may be a factor.

Grayshott I think still had a ten over game in their heads as they were quickly reduced to 40-6 thanks to some tidy bowling from M Shine (5-16) and some dodgy shot selection. That said the wicket was sporting and the batsmen may have thought that they should make hay whilst the sun shone.

Fortunately Guy Drake and Charles Brayshaw dug in and then released the hand brake putting on an invaluable partnership of 58 to take the score over the 100 mark. Guy hit 3 fours and a six on his way to a game changing 27 off 30 balls whilst Charles held the inning together hitting 3 fours of his own top scoring with 39 off 38 balls.

The lesser seen Ben Dowson then came to the party adding 19 in a partnership of 43 with Charles to take the score to 141-7 in 20 overs. Very respectable and an excellent come back.

In reply Aldershot faced the two batters who had not got in. George Brayshaw and Seb Burrage. Both bowled well with the odd wide. George picked up two early wickets before being replaced.

The spin of Toby and Oscar then caused havoc and a massive collapse. 31-2 soon became 65 -10 as Oscar collected 4 wickets and Toby 1. Ben Dowson chipped in with 2 wickets of his own at the end and Grayshott had won by 76 runs from the brink of defeat.

An excellent show of strength in depth and controlled bowling.

We are now likely to have a home tie in the semi final, probably against Calmore Sports in the next 2 weeks.

Thanks to Paul Heath for umpiring and for the parents for their support.
