Ropley 56 All out in 15 overs
Grayshott 58-3 in 11 overs
On a lovely Monday evening the Ghosts travelled down Ropley for a spot of T20.
With Rav winning the toss and an inspirational team talk from the gaffer (“Less runs we give away the less we have to chase”) we decided to show the opposition our strong bowling attack with Marden opening the bowling only leaking 9 runs off his 3 overs taking 1 wicket (he could of had maybe a few more but dismissed the opening batsmen 3 times, 2 of them being no balls). The other opener Tom Bussell bowled with great line and length not giving anything to the batsmen for free, only going for 10 runs off his allotted 4 overs.
It was the introduction of Wells and Joyce which ripped through the middle order. Wells could have had 5 wickets but a tough catch behind the stumps meant it went amiss, a good game from Ali Wheble with the gloves on, nether the less. It was Toby Joyce who stole the show with 5 wickets for just 15 runs, Toby is one of those bowlers that there will be the odd pie, but every couple of balls will be an unplayable one which batsmen have no chance. A couple of good catches in the deep from Burrage especially with the sun beaming into his eyes, a good fielding performance boys well done.
It was now Grayshotts time To bat, Brayshaw opened up looking very good out in the middle hitting a few devastating blows to the boundary for his 15. Baccarini was the other opener who batted very sensibly who punished anything loose, most of the runs coming with lots of singles and twos. A very good knock of 25* saw us over the line. When Brayshaw was dismissed our next batsmen was Burrage who was making comments about our batsmen not hitting more fours and sixes so obviously he went into bat and left one right onto middle stump first ball. George Patten was in next which is always a good watch. Still not yet to see a block from the man but a good knock for his 6. Finally Will was our last batsmen needed, picking up 3*.
Thank you to Ropley who hosted a very nice game of cricket, also providing a BBQ was a nice touch.
Today was a good day but Marks favourite part of the match report, the improvements..... I think that our bowling was impressive but the noise in the field was quiet let’s try and up it for next game. Also our shot selection, while batting, we don’t need to smack every ball for six if it’s not there to be hit, just nudge and take a single or a two especially on a ground that size.
Let’s hope we can keep his winning formula going for the rest of the season, finals day is on the cards.
