The weather stayed dry enough at Amesbury on Sunday morning for this match to go ahead and complete. Grayswood won the toss and elected to field first.
Lucas and Alexander were first into bat. Lucas hit a boundary on the very first ball and their partnership resulted in a very respectable 18 runs. Toby and Luca followed and continued to achieve a strong run rate. Harrison and Henry faced excellent bowling from which a few wickets fell, but stuck in there, hitting some neat shots and running vigorously to restore points. Alex and Fergus communicated clearly and stayed alert for overthrows, getting a couple of twos and many single runs between them. Finally Ned and Oliver did a great rearguard job, knocking up a great score, having benefited in part from an unfortunate last over requiring lots more balls to be bowled to get to 6 legal deliveries.
In total we set them a score of 181 to win.
After the refreshment break the boys went out and fielded with great sharpness and concentration. We took 11 wickets through a fairly even combination of some clean bowls, catches and rum outs, all of which were excellent. We kept the bowling really tight and gave away very few wides and no balls. I was deeply impressed by the bowling and the speed and teamwork involved in our fielding - it has come on so much over the last few weeks and was the noticeable difference between the teams. It enabled us to limit them to 135 runs and win the game comfortably. A great result to get against local rivals as the season nears its close.
Well done Tigers!
