Merrow 99-3 in 20 overs
Grayshott 103-1 in 14.3 overs
We got off to a great start with Harrison and Kieran keeping things tight and as they came to the end of their opening spells Merrow were just 9-0 off 4. Then things got rather untidy with too many easy short balls for the Merrow batsmen to tuck into and suddenly the next 4 overs had gone for 36 and the Merrow openers looked set.
It took the introduction of Ben and Harry to put a check on things. Pace off the ball was the key on a low slow wicket and Ben with 1-14 off his 4 overs and Harry only going for 12 off his 4 overs did a great job.
It was a particularly good effort in the field since we lost Ben Dowson to a rolled ankle after 5 overs and so fielded most of the match with just 10 fielders. Harrison and George were the other wicket takers.
In response Rohan and Charlie put on 48 for the first wicket in the 7th over with Rohan going on to post his maiden 50 for the club. Rohan's (52 no) and Will' (33no) carried us home to a 9 wicket win.
A few brief reflections on the tragedy of the Battle of the Somme followed. The boys were riveted. And have asked for more history lectures. Next time the Irish Potato Famine of 1845.
