Grayshott Cricket Club has seen youth cricket played at Grayshott for over fifty years now, and continues to be a very popular club offering good quality coaching for young children together with a pathway through all ages of junior cricket and then ultimately into adult cricket. All our adult sides include a strong nucleus of current and former youth players, a credit to our coaching teams. In 2017 the club has launched an All Stars Cricket Centre which has proved so popular that we are now full.

The club has over 200 junior members offering cricket to children in Grayshott and the surrounding areas including Beacon Hill, Bordon, Haslemere, Headley, Lindford, Liphook and Whitehill. The club has two excellent grounds at Grayshott and now at Broxhead Common, Lindford.

Running any youth organisation nowadays has to incorporate so many additional requirements. Cricket is no different and in 2005 Grayshott adopted the ECB’s “Safe Hands Policy” and achieved Clubmark accreditation demonstrating that the club takes matters like Child Protection seriously. 2014 saw the club acquire a fourth consecutive term of accreditation, an achievement of which we are obviously quite proud.

In 2006, Grayshott was awarded ECB Focus Club status, just one of 37 Clubs in Hampshire to achieve such status which recognises clubs that promote the development of youth cricket. Grayshott continue to retain this Focus Club status.

My association with the club has been over 30 years and my love of the club has always been that it is a family orientated one but continuing to be a strong and friendly village cricket club. If you are looking to enrol your child please read on and do not hesitate to contact me via email or give me a call on 07826 523227, should you have any further questions.

What the club offers your child in 2017

In 2016 Our Under 13s enjoyed a successful season. Here they are pictured after becoming unbeaten South East Hants League Champions.

In 2017, Grayshott will offer coaching throughout the winter and summer months led by fully 25 qualified level 2 coaches, supported by 2 Level 1 and 18 Coach Support workers. Details of all our coaching sessions in terms of dates and times can be found here.

Also on offer will be competitive cricket in the following age groups: Under 8, Under 9, Under 10, Under 11, Under 12, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19. As an inclusive club, we do encourage girls to participate in the game of cricket.

Any parent interested in registering their child at the club is encouraged to do so over the winter period as come the start of the season our younger squads are typically full. Parents interested in registering their children should contact Youth Manager Graham Sampson on 07826 523227 who will be glad to talk through what the club can offer their child.

largeIn 2017, Grayshott will also become an All Star Cricket Centre offering cricket to children in the 5 to 7 year old age group at Grayshott Sportsfield. All Star Cricket Centres are great fun for children involving parents in their child’s cricket at the club and at home. It has proved so popular that the ecentre is now full for 2017.

The club normally enters teams into three local leagues in order that children can experience competitive cricket at different levels. Most of the games are normally 20 overs a side. Children from aged 14 upward are also encouraged to play adult cricket on a Saturday or Sunday.

In recent years the club has been very successful reaching finals and winning trophies at different age groups. Furthermore the club has a healthy number of junior members at district level and in recent years at County level.

The club also hold two holiday cricket camps run by Hampshire Cricket which are open to members and non members.

Grayshott Cricket Club also holds a Youth Presentation Evening in September which is popular and where every junior member receives a form of recognition.

This website  allows parents/guardians and junior members to be kept informed of latest news, results and match reports. We also issue a weekly email bulletin and a quarterly club newsletter “Calling the Shotts”, the latter for members who do not have access to the internet.

The Club achieved its third re-accreditation in May 2014. Clubmark is the most important accreditation the club holds especially if you are a parent and you can find out more on why Clubmark is so important for you and your child.

The club requires a completed membership form for all members and you can now register on line. Alternatively download this membership form and forward to the address shown on the form. The 2016 Junior Membership Fee is £60 per youth player inclusive of any Junior match fees, if paid by the end of February, £70 thereafter. A £5 discount for every additional child in the same family will also be allowed.

The membership fee is inclusive of all summer coaching sessions and match fees.

For children registering for our All Stars Centre the fee is £50 for 2017,  but this is now full and the club is no longer taking new registrations for All Stars in 2017.

Coaching Sessions

A comprehensive winter indoor coaching programme is available to most age groups pre season in February and March and post season in November. Outdoor coaching normally operates from the beginning of May to the middle of July.

All of our coaching sessions are led by fully qualified cricket coaches, who are all DBS checked and have attended basic first aid and safeguarding children courses.

To attend these sessions you will need to become a member of the club. Click here for full details of our coaching programme.

The club charges separately for all winter indoor coaching sessions.

Our Expectations

Our Under 7s celebrate another season with their certificates in 2016

We expect youth members to behave in a reasonable and sociable way to others, including their peers, coaching staff and other youth and adult members.

Furthermore when representing the club we expect our junior members to wear both the club cap and shirt. We expect junior members to play adult cricket for Grayshott on a Saturday and not for other league clubs. Playing adult cricket for another club will jeopardise their selection to play youth matches for Grayshott. If in such circumstances parents should speak to the Youth Manager in the first instance and before the start of the season.

Likewise, all adults who have responsibility for youth cricket in any way at Grayshott Cricket Club are expected to respect individuals and conduct themselves appropriately. It is a policy of Grayshott Cricket Club that ALL youth coaches and any others who might reasonably have contact with youth members have received clearance via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Our View and Priorities for Youth Cricket

We believe that our younger members are an essential part of Grayshott Cricket Club, vital to the club’s present and future success. We aim to do all we can to encourage and include younger players and make them feel a valued part of the club, irrespective of their age, gender or level of ability or length of time with the club.
We also expect that youngsters should be able to enjoy their cricket and develop their abilities in a safe environment, free from harassment, bullying or other risks.

Our priorities for all aspects of youth cricket, including coaching, youth matches and adult matches involving youngsters, are:

  • The safety and welfare of the individual;
  • Enabling youngsters to enjoy the game;
  • Coaching and encouraging younger players to help them develop their cricketing skills;
  • Helping children to establish self-confidence, both on and off the field, and develop enthusiasm for the game of cricket.

Information for Parents

To help bring together all the information a parent might require in terms of what the club offers young members the club has produced an Information booklet for Parents.

This booklet details all the codes of conduct and policies that can be found on this page.

Getting Involved with the Shotts

Our Youth section cannot function without the correct level of parental support. The club is keen to involve parents and guardians with the running of the club. In particular, we are always looking for help with our coaching sessions and support roles as we look to improve the quality of coaching we offer. If coaching is not your strength there are plenty of other opportunites to help the club. Read here to see how you can get involved.

You do not need to have a knowledge of the game, but if you do all the better. Anyone interested in helping out please contact Youth Manager Graham Sampson on 07826 523227.
