Grayshott Cricket Club has seen youth cricket played at Grayshott for over fifty years now, and continues to be a very popular club offering good quality coaching for young children providing a pathway through all ages of junior cricket and then ultimately into adult cricket where parents can have the once in a lifetime opportunity to play in the same side as their child. All our adult sides include a strong nucleus of current and former youth players, a credit to our coaching teams.

The club offers cricket to children from the age of 5 upwards irrespective of their level of ability, encouraging those children new to the game and providing a more competitve environment to children as they develop their cricket, all with the ultimate aim of children enjoying the great game of cricket. In 2017 the club launched an All Stars Cricket Centre for children aged 5 to 8 years of age which has grown considerably with over 90 children experiencing the great game for the first time in 2018. In 2019  All Stars returning to Grayshott for a ten week programme.

The club has over 260 junior members offering cricket to children in Grayshott and the surrounding areas including Beacon Hill, Bordon, Haslemere, Headley, Lindford, Liphook and Whitehill. The club has two excellent grounds at Grayshott and Broxhead Common, Lindford.

Running any youth organisation nowadays has to incorporate so many additional requirements. Cricket is no different and in 2005 Grayshott adopted the ECB’s “Safe Hands Policy” and achieved Clubmark accreditation. In 2018 the club renewed this accreditation until 2021.

My association with the club has been over 30 years and my love for the game and the club has always been that it is a family orientated one, but continuing to be a strong and friendly village cricket club. If you are looking to enrol your child at Grayshott please read on and do not hesitate to contact me via email or give me a call on 07826 523227, should you have any further questions.

What the club offers your child in 2019

In 2019, Grayshott will offer coaching throughout the winter and summer months led by fully 26 qualified level 2 coaches, supported by 19 Coach Support workers, offering a good ratio of coach to children and high quality coaching from the age of 8 upwards. Details of all our coaching sessions in terms of dates and times can be found here.

Also on offer will be competitive cricket in the following age groups: Under 8, Under 9, Under 10, Under 11, Under 12, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19. Teams are entered into local leagues, the Two Counties Youth League and the South East Hants League. Our aim is to enter sides into leagues that will allow children to enjoy and develop their cricket irrespective of ability. Children from aged 14 upward are also encouraged to play adult cricket on a Saturday or Sunday.

In recent years the club has enjoyed some success in reaching finals and winning trophies at different age groups. Furthermore the club has a healthy number of junior members who have been selected for the South East Hants Regional Performance Centre and in recent years at Hampshire County level. As an inclusive club, we do encourage girls to participate in the game of cricket and in 2019 will be launching a dedicated Girls section for girls age 7 to years of age.

Any parent interested in registering their child at the club, can do so here and should contact Youth Manager Graham Sampson on 07826 523227 who will be glad to talk through what the club can offer their child.

largeIn 2019, Grayshott will again be an All Star Cricket Centre offering cricket to children in the 5 to 8 year old age group at Grayshott Sportsfield.

All Star Cricket Centres are great fun for children involving parents in their child’s cricket at the club and at home.

It is a ten week programme at 0915 on a Saturday morning starting in May, with the whole emphasis on fun and getting children involved with cricket.

For more information on All Stars visit our dedicated section on All Stars here.

Grayshott Cricket Club also holds a Youth Presentation Evening in September which is popular and where every junior member receives a form of recognition.

This website  allows parents/guardians and junior members to be kept informed of latest news, results and match reports. We also issue a weekly email bulletin ensuring parents are ket informed of news and events at the club.

In 2017, we introduced an U8 side for the first time and they did extremely well, finishing their season unbeaten and winning their league in the Two Counties Youth League . They are pictured here with one of their coaches Ally Cook after one of their games.

Coaching Sessions

A comprehensive winter indoor coaching programme is available to most age groups pre season in February and March. Outdoor coaching normally operates from the beginning of May to the middle of July.

All of our coaching sessions are led by fully qualified cricket coaches, who are all DBS checked and have attended basic first aid and safeguarding children courses.

To attend these sessions you will need to become a member of the club. Click here for full details of our coaching programme.

The club charges separately for all winter indoor coaching sessions.

The Club achieved its fourth re-accreditation in August 2018. Clubmark is the most important accreditation the club holds especially if you are a parent and you can find out more on why Clubmark is so important for you and your child.

Our Expectations

Some of our All Stars had the opportunity to be a Guard of Honour for the ODI at the Ageas Bowl in 2017. Don’t they look happy!

We expect youth members to behave in a reasonable and sociable way to others, including their peers, coaching staff and other youth and adult members.

Furthermore when representing the club we expect our junior members to wear both the club cap and shirt. We expect junior members to play adult cricket for Grayshott on a Saturday and not for other league clubs. Playing adult cricket for another club will jeopardise their selection to play youth matches for Grayshott. If in such circumstances parents should speak to the Youth Manager in the first instance and before the start of the season.

Likewise, all adults who have responsibility for youth cricket in any way at Grayshott Cricket Club are expected to respect individuals and conduct themselves appropriately. It is a policy of Grayshott Cricket Club that ALL youth coaches and any others who might reasonably have contact with youth members have received clearance via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Our View and Priorities for Youth Cricket

We believe that our younger members are an essential part of Grayshott Cricket Club, vital to the club’s present and future success. We aim to do all we can to encourage and include younger players and make them feel a valued part of the club, irrespective of their age, gender or level of ability or length of time with the club.
We also expect that youngsters should be able to enjoy their cricket and develop their abilities in a safe environment, free from harassment, bullying or other risks.

Our priorities for all aspects of youth cricket, including coaching, youth matches and adult matches involving youngsters, are:

  • The safety and welfare of the individual;
  • Enabling youngsters to enjoy the game;
  • Coaching and encouraging younger players to help them develop their cricketing skills;
  • Helping children to establish self-confidence, both on and off the field, and develop enthusiasm for the game of cricket.

Information for Parents

To help bring together all the information a parent might require in terms of what the club offers young members the club has produced this  booklet for parents

This booklet also details all the codes of conduct and policies that can be found on this page.

Getting Involved with the Shotts

Our Youth section cannot function without the correct level of parental support. The club is keen to involve parents and guardians with the running of the club. In particular, we are always looking for help with our coaching sessions and support roles as we look to improve the quality of coaching we offer. If coaching is not your strength there are plenty of other opportunites to help the club. Please take 5 minutes to read this note on how you might be able to help at the club.

You do not need to have a knowledge of the game, but if you do all the better. Anyone interested in helping out please contact Youth Manager Graham Sampson on 07826 523227 or via email grahamsampson@grayshottcc.co.uk
