A beautiful ground at Liphook & Ripsley on a nice sunny evening. Parents out in force and the cricket so good the local chinook helicopter (picture courtesy of Alex White) had to take a few passes to catch the action.
As with many of the local team games, many knew the opposition resulting in plenty of friendly banter going on in the field. Grayshott bowled first with some accurate pace ultimately taking 7 wickets restricting Liphook to 97. Max, George, Toby Waddell, Ben and Tom taking one apiece and Toby White taking 2.
Liphook’s run rate was kept to a minimum due to a combination of captain George’s field placement, the large boundary, strong fielding, 3 classic catches from Guy fielding at point. This was complimented by good keeping from Dexter and Cam with Cam taking a great catch getting Tom his wicket.
Ben topped the economy at 2 runs and over off his 3 overs with Max and Ned and George at under 4 an over through constant pressure.
97 looked to be an achievable score after opener Guy retired at 31 taking 16 off one over. However the next 4 failed to make double figures after some decent bowling and ambitious running between the wickets. Captain George steadied the ship somewhat until being bowled uncharacteristically; things were getting tight.
It was Toby White in the end who made a quick 20 off 11 balls supported by Toby Waddell at the other end to seal the deal with one over to spare.
A great evening of cricket and thanks to Liphook for a relaxed, yet competitive game taking things down to the wire.
